About Me

Amanda Dupupet (she/her), MA, MTA, RCT, CCC

I am a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), as well as a Registered Music Therapist (MTA) with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists.

My practice is currently primarily talk therapy, however from time to time elements of music can be incorporated into session if this is of interest to the client. I focus on supporting individuals through the transition to parenthood and the potential obstacles associated with this period, such as fertility challenges, grief and loss, birth trauma, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, attachment and bonding with baby, and navigating identity changes.

I use a trauma-informed, strength-based approach to empower clients to overcome, heal, and build stronger families. My clients experience a combination of modalities, including EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness, with elements of narrative therapy, CBT, somatic experiencing, and psychodynamic theories, grounded in a supportive, collaborative, client-centred, therapeutic relationship.

I have long been passionate about helping families through the perinatal period. As part of my internship as a music therapist, I worked in a Neonatal Intensive Care unit supporting families and their premature or critically ill infants in Melbourne, Australia. Previously, I ran a private music therapy practice focused on offering developmentally appropriate music therapy programs to parents and their young children. I have also completed training as a HypnoBirthing instructor.

In addition to my practice at the Centre, I am a published author and researcher in the fields of birth trauma and domestic violence.
